Art and music - our inspiring neighbours
When you visit Fuglsang Herregaard, you'll find yourself in the centre of a vibrant and inspiring cultural environment where art, music and nature meet in a rare harmony. Just a few minutes' walk from the manor you'll find two of our close neighbours: Fuglsang Art Museum and Ensemble Storstrøm in the historic steward's house, KUMUS.
Fuglsang Art Museum - where art and architecture merge
Fuglsang Art Museum is one of Denmark's most recognised art museums and an architectural gem in its own right. Opened in 2008, the museum was designed by British architect Tony Fretton, who managed to create a building that respects both the history of the manor house and the surrounding nature. The simple, light-coloured architecture opens up to the landscape and gives guests a unique experience of peace and contemplation.
Inside you'll find a rich selection of Danish art from around 1780 to the present day, including works by L. A. Ring, Anna Ancher, Vilhelm Hammershøi and Olaf Rude. The changing special exhibitions focus on both classical and modern artists, and the museum's expression changes with the seasons and the play of light across the flat Lolland landscape.
After the tour, you can enjoy a cup of coffee and home baking in the café, which offers a fantastic view over the meadows towards Guldborgsund. The museum is just a short walk through the park from Fuglsang Herregaard - an experience that can naturally be included as part of your stay.
Ensemble Storstrøm and KUMUS - the heart of music at Fuglsang
Right next to the art museum is KUMUS - the old steward's building that today houses Ensemble Storstrøm, one of the country's leading chamber ensembles. The building has been carefully renovated and now functions as a living musical house where concerts, workshops and cultural events take place all year round.
Ensemble Storstrøm consists of professional musicians who play everything from classical masterpieces to new compositions - often in close collaboration with guest artists and local initiatives. The intimate concerts in KUMUS create a special closeness between audience and musicians, adding an atmosphere of intensity and artistic life to the venue.
Here at Fuglsang, art, music and manor life come together in a grand way. Fuglsang Art Museum and Ensemble Storstrøm are not just our neighbours - they are part of the special cultural breathing space that makes the area unique.
A visit to Fuglsang is a journey into the art, the sounds and the tranquillity of nature - all right outside the manor's doors.
